About VJ Rompy
Ryan’s start as a DJ was a combination of timing, passion and luck. Already an employee at dbar in Dorchester, he was given the chance to start a movie night on dbar’s slowest night of the week, Tuesday. After months of movie musicals, promotional events, and a big leap of faith on the part of owner Brian Piccini, Ryan found himself as the host and VJ for the most popular night at dbar and the place to be on Tuesday nights in Boston.
His love for the stage and experience in the performing arts made him the perfect host for the new Broadway video night, Showtune Tuesday! What he didn’t realize at that time was that musical nights in Boston (once a staple of the nightlife scene) were ironically always on Tuesday night at the well-known Dedo/Luxor. With guidance from Piccini, Ryan was able to continue the Tuesday night tradition and eventually expand his repertoire into a full-time profession.
Originally from Braintree, MA, Ryan graduated from the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University with a degree in Television, Radio and Film production and until now wasn’t sure he’d ever “use” his degree. He’s thankful to have found a medium that combines his experience in the fields of TV, Radio, and Film with his love for the performing arts. His stylistic fingerprint can be seen and heard in all of his shows and most nights of the week he can be found singing along in the booth either at Club Café or dbar. His humble and unexpected start as a DJ has made Ryan appreciate every opportunity to put on a show, learn from the experience of his coworkers, and always create a completely unique video experience for his audience.
