MRF (Michael Flanagan) — performer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer/songwriter, and educator — began playing saxophone at age 10 and piano at age 14. Lisa Bello, a middle school teacher by day, tatted-up R&B chick by night, is not only a singer, but also a songwriter and co-producer. Bello is also a familiar face on the popular Boston hip-hop morning show on JAMN 94.5 with Ramiro & Pebbles.
Mob Music was the name of the weekly Thursday night residence that MRF and Lisa Bello had at Club Cafe Boston back in 2011/2012. MRF’s sophomore album, Mob Music, which features Lisa Bello as the lead vocalist, was released on October 22, 2013 and climbed to #1 on the iTunes U.S. Jazz Chart within 22 hours of its release. The album also charted on Billboard HeatSeekers and was nominated for 5 OUTmusic awards. Title track “Mob Music”, “I Just Wanted” and “Club Cafe” hit UK radio prior to the album release, and “Trying” remains in rotation on over 60 Smooth Jazz stations in the U.S. (5 Billboard stations), Canada, Spain, Germany. The groundbreaking music video for ‘Trying’ has over 85,000 views and was nominated for an OUTmusic award for Best Music Video. LGBT-youth tribute “Be Strong”, was selected as the Official Flag Raising Anthem for Boston Pride 2013. The song was nominated for 2 OUTmusic awards: Best Humanitarian Songwriter of the Year, Best R&B Song.
