He performs, teaches and lectures at jazz clubs, concert halls, schools, and national and international jazz education festivals.

“Shade,” David’s debut album, was chosen as a Top 5 Vocal Jazz CD of 2004 by the Jazz Education Journal. “I was knocked out. The jazz singer/arranger is also a composer/lyricist who is a welcome change from the more predictable vocal jazzers in the competitive vocal milieu,” wrote Herb Wong.

His 2007 album “DYAD” is a collection of jazz standards and original songs, performed as duets with pianist Mark Shilansky. “Clear diction, warm tones and stellar vocal control over each note, no excuses… strong delivery and fabulous lyrics,” said Jazz Sensibilities, June 2, 2008

David performs in the jazz vocal groups Syncopation (www.jazzsyncopation.com) and Vocalogy (www.vocalogy.net). Syncopation, which the Boston Globe calls “the 21st century Manhattan Transfer or Lambert, Hendricks and Ross,” took first place at the 2008 Harmony Sweepstakes in Boston. Syncopation’s “Wonderful You” and Vocalogy’s “Distilled” are available at CDBaby.com and iTunes.

David’s arrangements for jazz choir are published in the “Classic Vocal Jazz” series by Hal Leonard Corporation. His arrangements for Vocalogy are published by University of Northern Colorado Jazz Press.

In 2006, David received a Berklee Faculty Fellowship and Recording Grant to study, transcribe, perform and record vocal group arrangements from the 1930s and 1940s.

David is an active classical singer. He is a member of Cut Circle, the Renaissance vocal octet praised for its “spirited,” “scholarly,” and “masterful” performances by the New York Times and the Williamstown Advocate Weekly, and called “the most promising group I have heard in a long time” by Donald Greig of the Tallis Scholars/Orlando Consort. David was also a finalist in the professional division of the 2003 Boston Area Song and Aria Festival sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

David received a B.A., Magna Cum Laude in English and music from Drew University, an A.A.A. in Professional Music from the School for Music Vocations (under Phil Mattson), and a M.M. in Jazz Vocal Performance from the University of Miami (under Larry Lapin). He continues his studies in voice with Mark Baxter.

MRF (Michael Flanagan) — performer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer/songwriter, and educator — began playing saxophone at age 10 and piano at age 14. After only a few years of playing, he was performing throughout Boston and the South Shore. While attending Brockton High School, Michael arranged musical works for the concert band (consisting of over 100 students) and jazz bands while serving as the lead saxophonist. During this time he was very fortunate to study under his mentors Yasko Kubota and Jerry Bergonzi for over two years.
Michael’s love for music brought him to Boston’s own Berklee College of Music on a performance-based scholarship where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. After only a year at Berklee, Michael went on tour in Japan where he performed at several venues including the Blue Note and the Glen Miller Festival. He has had the privilege of performing with jazz greats such as Terri Lynne Carrington, Joanne Brackeen, Bob Moses, Andre Hayward, Esperanza Spalding, Tiger Okoshi, Donald Harrison and many more. Within contemporary genres, Michael has also performed with several hip-hop, funk, and rock groups.

On June 8, 2010, Michael released his debut album, “Elevator Music,” under his artist name MRF, on iTunes, Amazon, and most other internet sites selling music. This album represents all of what MRF has to offer musically, showcasing him as a saxophonist, pianist, producer, songwriter, composer, and arranger. Michael utilized his versatile playing and experience in different genres to make this album a mix of different styles of music fused together with a jazz influence on every track.

Toronto born, Ryan Shergold currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts where, after receiving a vocal scholarship, he recently graduated with dean’s list honors from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, majoring in music business and vocal performance. Ryan began singing at a very young age, and studied classical opera for much of his youth. After realizing his love for music he went on to perform throughout the city of Toronto in various musicals, competitions, and shows.

At just 23 years old, Ryan has already starred in a Toronto production of Les Miserables, performed for 2 years as lead singer of the official “Tower of Power” tribute band, and starred in many of Berklee’s largest shows. He has opened for Canadian artists K-OS, and The New Pornographers, performed as a background singer for Steve Winwood and Philip Bailey of “Earth, Wind, & Fire”, and most recently shared the stage with Linda Ronstadt and Smokey Robinson at the Agganis Arena.

Ryan is currently collaborating with songwriters and producers, in both Boston and Toronto, toward his debut album.

Vocalist Judith Murray performs jazz standards from the Great American Songbook, the 1930s’ and 40s’ and 50s’ genre. This is the music that is classy, sultry, fine and mellow; and sometimes swinging! Judith’s sounds have a sophisticated, sassy, smooth and stunning quality; her interpretations often compared to the late Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington by the patrons and media alike. She sings from her soul and brings that soulfullness to each song’s interpretation. A reviewer has said of the vocalist, “Murray is a consummate professional, in the Billie Holiday tradition, who gets inside the lyrics of a song………….” When you listen to Judith, and the extremely talented musicians she works with, you are taken back to the days of lounges and supper clubs of years past.

Growing up in her native Philadelphia, Judith’s childhood voice lessons found her in the presence of an extraordinary vocal coach who used an accompanist who was the yet to be discovered Nina Simone. Judith’s further life’s experiences found her under the tutelage of such jazz greats as Dr. Billy Taylor and the legendary Max Roach where Judith studied jazz improvisation as part of the “Jazz in July” series at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Max Roach said after her performance, “Honey you’ve been there!”

In the years since moving to Boston from the Los Angeles area, Judith has been performing in Boston area nightspots, hotel lounges and restaurants, city festivals, and private soirees and corporate bashes; and had a long-running engagement in the Terrace Lounge at The Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel.

Judith was honored to be asked this past August, 2009,along with a significant number of highly touted Boston jazz artists, to be a part of a documentary on the history of jazz in Boston recorded at Wally’s, a famous Boston jazz spot.

Judith gets into the lyrics of each song. At private venues, cocktail parties, outdoor concerts, country clubs and club dates, Judith and her musicians have been known to take the Great American Songbook to sizzling heights. When reviewed in the arts section of a particular highly acclaimed newspaper several years ago, Judith said, “I could sing all night”. And the reviewer wrote, “That’s good because one could listen all night!”
