Help yourself to music served with a side of drama, laughs and heart! Storyteller chronicles the misadventures of life through musical theater, R&B, pop, and Jazz. There’s a little something for everyone in this cabaret.
Kennen Butler is a performer-composer, director, songwriter, and storyteller born in Flint, MI, but raised in Newburgh, NY. Their cross-genre career spans musical theater and commercial music. Their musical theater credits include Seussical the Musical Off-Broadway/Tour (Wickersham), Hairspray (u/s Seaweed), Tommy (u/s Acid Queen), Diary of a Payphone, Aida (Mereb), Urinetown (Senator Fipp), Into the Woods (The Witch), and Songs for a New World (Man 1) among others. They spent time as a background vocalist for acts like Toby Beau. Abroad, they served as a Creative Consultant for Universal Studios Osaka as well as being a swing for the company. They would also serve as director/choreographer for a Japanese production company called Team Utsubo where they mounted revue musicals in both English and Japanese. They would be the music director, choreographer, and lead singer for the a band “Kennen Jakhan & the Story” which performed around Osaka and the south of Japan. The band would perform a combination of English and Japanese covers and original music before making the transition back to the United States. They are a player and composer for Cincinnati’s American Legacy Theatre Home Theatre program.
Nathan Morrissey is a multi-stylistic contemporary pianist based in Boston. He has enjoyed studying piano since he was young, and enjoys experiencing new music. He has considerable training and experience in Jazz, and cites Jazz greats such as Brad Melhdau and Fred Hersch as his creative inspirations. He also works extensively in the musical theater world, working from local community theater to the professional level. He has experience as a keys player and MD, and enjoys being able to contribute to the music in a project in his own way. He loves working with singers, and has an appreciation for each person’s unique style of interpreting and presenting their music. Nathan’s favorite challenge is the next and most difficult one! In his free time he likes playing frisbee and dogs!
